Job Summary
The Pediatric Psychologist at the Madison Clinic for Pediatric Diabetes will provide psychological assessments and treatments to complex patients through consultation and evaluation. The Pediatric Psychologist will provide patient care services for a range of mental health disorders, often complex or severe including depression, anxiety, disordered eating beahvior and diabetes distress. Settings are primarily outpatient clinics with some inpatient consultation. The patient population served will be primarily comprised of children, adolescents and young adult patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. This position is responsible for delivering high quality clinical psychology services with the interdisciplinary Madison Clinic team (MDs, nurse practitioners, nurses, dietitians, social workers, art therapist, transition coordinator, school nurses and/or community liaisons). This position will be working directly and indirectly with patients, families and with the health care team to improve patient's psychological health, quality of life and reduce disability, as well as contribute to buildin a more positive general environment in the Madison Clinic. This positon requires having a strong interest and experience in pediatric behavioral medicine, managing emotional and behavioral aspects of chronic diseses and interest in related clinical research projects.
Required Qualifications
  • Board of Psychology License in the State of California
  • Ph.D. or Psy. D. from an accredited institution in clinical psychology.
  • An internship in Clinical Psychology including a successful completion of an APA-accredited internship or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum one year of post-doctoral professional experience in clinical psychology
  • Current AHA BLS certification
  • Basic skills in providing behavioral / educational interventions.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and ethical standards associated with profession.
  • Basic knowledge of diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.
  • Effective verbal & written communication. Demonstrated active listening and persuasion skills.
  • Skills in collaborating with interdisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of business software and electronic / medical records systems.
  • Experience with chronically ill children and their families, including but not limited to pre-doctoral, post-doctoral, and professional experience.
    • Knowledge of learning theory, behavioral medicine and chronic pain
    • Experience in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) that includes diagnosis, crisis intervention, individual/group psychotherapy and consultation and collaboration with medical personnel
  • This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
